Just a random post...

This is a random post of some of the things we have been up to lately. First, a big update...the last two nights Micah has slept for 5 1/2 hours straight!!! Yeah!!!! Now, I am not getting too excited yet as I know this might not be a pattern however, it was encouraging to know that he can at least sleep longer than 2 1/2 hours at night. The only bad thing is the past two days he has been very fussy during the day! I know he (well, me for that matter too) is still working on getting things figured out. Guess life as a 5 1/2 week old is pretty tough! :) He is definitely continuing to grow...as I said last time he doesn't even seem like a little baby any more. He is making more noises and also will look at you or an object instead of just staring into space. He is really strong too, especially his legs. When he is mad (like when he is getting his diaper changed) he will stiffen his legs and refuse to bend them. His neck is also getting stronger too, he is able to lift his head when he is on his tummy and move his head from laying on one side to the other. Lastly, it is really funny to see him stretch. Like when he is done eating he will arch his back and throw his arms over his head and stretch like that was just really hard work. It is very cute. Here's a few pics for you.

As you can tell he has lost most all of the hair on top of his head.

Micah attended his first church picnic on Sunday...he basically slept thru the whole thing. He did get his own name tag though.

Destined to be a Cubs fan? I think so...like father like son! :) Corey and his dad went to a Cubs spring training game and Micah really wanted to go! Haha....maybe next year.

Bathtime

Well, Micah's first bath didn't go so well (see previous post with a picture of him screaming) but since then he LOVES his bath. We got a new bathtub for him and it has a thing for little babies who can't sit on their own...like a little "shelf" for him to sit on. So, he loves it now, I think that he thinks he is at the spa! Haha! I tried giving him a bath to keep him awake during the day but he was so relaxed that he was even starting to fall asleep in the tub. Hopefully this is a sign that he likes the water and this summer when he is a little older we can take him to the pool.

1 Month Old

Micah at 1 month. He is starting to get the old man look...he's losing the hair on the top of his head! Haha!

It's hard to believe that our little Micah is already 1 month old. Or does it feel like he has always been here? I guess a little of both. When I look at him I feel like he doesn't look like a little baby anymore, he has already changed so much since he was born. He was in for his one month check up and he weighs 9 lbs 10 ounces (he weighed 7 lbs 5.5 ounces when he was born) which now is the 50th percentile up from the 25th. He is 22 1/2" (75-90%) and his head circumference is 14 1/2" (25%). Overall he had a great check up and is healthy and growing strong. He had to get one shot, however he really didn't seem to mind it. He was more annoyed that we woke him up from his nap b/c as soon as Corey picked him up it was right back to sleep. Speaking of sleep...we are still struggling in the department. I am attempting to follow the principles in Baby Wise which basically attempts to get him on an eating/sleeping routine (eat, stay awake, go to bed awake and fall asleep, then repeat every 3 hours except with no awake time during the night). Micah still has his days/nights off. For example last night after I fed him at 3 am he would not go back to sleep and was very fussy so then of course this morning it was impossible to keep him awake b/c he didn't get the sleep he needed during the night. I feel like I struggle all day long to keep him awake to eat and awake during the day!! I know it will get easier, but it sure is exhausting work now.

On a more positive note, we sure are thankful for this little guy. I was reminded yesterday that God knew what He was doing when he gave this specific child to us and made us the parents for this child. That is no accident!! All the days of his life are already known by the one who created him. How awesome is that.

Micah is really getting strong, he is starting to be able to hold his head up. We try to put him on his tummy but he isn't really a huge fan of that. He does however love to lay and look out the window. If he is in the mood that will keep him occupied for quit a while. Micah also made his first appearance to church Sunday morning (well, he went last week on Sunday evening when Corey preached). Everyone was very excited to see him, we did keep him in his stroller/carseat though as he is still kind of little to get passed around. We also continue to do lots of walks in the park. The weather is nice now so we are taking advantage of it before it gets too hot.

Corey's Uncle Dan in from L.A for a visit

Micah taking a bottle. I am trying to start pumping so that we can give Micah a bottle and feel a little more freed up to go out and do things. He took this bottle great from Corey!

3 Weeks Old

Well, I am a bit behind...it's hard to keep up on pretty much everything with this little guy. Tomorrow (4/19/10) Micah will actually be 4 weeks old but here is an update from his 3rd week of life.

We haven't really had too many new milestones during the 3rd week. Micah continues to be a happy baby (most of the time) we just wish he would sleep longer at night. Some nights are better than others. He will usually go about 3 hours at night in between feedings (sometimes a little less sometimes a little more). He sure does love to be held though. He can be sleeping soundly in our arms and then when he is laid down he wakes up and starts crying. We have been letting him cry at night. We are trying to put him down to bed when he is awake (when we can) and letting him cry himself to sleep. He usually does ok with this, though there are times when he gets so worked up we will have to go in to settle him down. He is still doing his involuntary smile which is adorable, though it will be fun once he smiles at us on purpose. He is very alert as well when he is awake. He also now will track things with his eyes. He was watching the mobile on his swing the other day and today he was watching the balloons we have from when he was born. He sure loves his daddy! I mean, I'm sure he loves me too but he usually just wants to eat when I hold him! He loves when Corey plays with him...they do the YMCA, tarzan, disco and more! :) Haha, so cute. I do have some good videos I will have to post at some point. He also is usually pretty content laying/sitting in his boppy seat. He are a few pics from the week.

See my big blue eyes!

So sweet and cuddly...though this isn't always the case!

Micah even got some onsies with his name on them. So adorable!! Thanks Matt and Kris.

+
Micah had several visitors this week. He was able to meet and spend some time with his Aunt Jess and his Grandma Fell came back out for another visit and helped with some of the early morning times. Grandma and Grandpa Kugle have also been spending lots of time with him/us.

Micah got his first real bath this week. You can tell from the picture how much he enjoyed that! :)

Micah also got some homemade baby legs as a gift from a friend of mine...look how adorable he looks in them. Nevermind the fact that daddy thinks they look like tights I think they are plenty masculine enough! haha On a side note Corey also calls his gowns dresses if that tells you anything.

I also just got my Moby Wrap in the mail today (thanks Dennis and Nancy). I tried it out with Micah (well, that is after trying it out with a stuffed elephant! ). It is a little intimidating at first as it is basically a long (I would guess 15 foot) piece of cloth that you can wrap several different ways. He seemed to like it and I loved it! It's SO great having 2 hands to be able to get some stuff done thoughI am sure "baby wearing" doesn't help the fact that he loves to be held.

Two Weeks Old

Micah's second week of life again consisted of sleeping, eating, and lots of diaper changing. I can tell this will be a consistent theme for a while. He is starting to get his days and nights back in order. If we'd let him he'd literally sleep all day and stay awake all night. So, we've been waking him approximately every three hours during the day (though there are times when 3 hours and 1 minute have passed and he wakes up on his own to eat) and trying to keep him awake after each feeding which is NOT an easy task with a newborn. It has been helping though, he is waking up every 3 hours at night but after he eats I lay him back in his bassinet and he will either fall right back to sleep or cry for a few minutes and then go back to sleep. I think the biggest struggle is trying to keep him awake long enough to eat a full meal!

Micah got circumsized on Tuesday so he had a rough day, he is healing well though. At his appointment he weighed 7# 10.5 oz (at 11 days old) so he is gaining good weight and doesn't need to go back to the MD until his one month check up. He is still a tiny thing but I think he is starting to fill out a little. He is also really strong...he hates getting his diaper changed and when we do change it he will kick and squirm. You can see from his 2 week picture the smirk on his face. He has the cutest little smile, though it is usually when he is sleeping and I say it is just an involuntary smile. It is fun to see how he has been changing even in just one weeks time. As fun as it will be to see him grow and reach so many milestones he is just so sweet right now!

Corey's parents are in town for the month of March. They rented a condo in Scottsdale and have not only enjoyed meeting and spending time with Micah but have also been a huge help to us (cleaning, cooking, etc). We have also been very blessed as friends and people from church have been bringing us meals! What a blessing that is!

I just realized I didn't take many pictures this past week, I'll have to do better but here are a few for you to see our little man!

3 Generations: Dennis, Corey, and Micah

One of his favorite past-times...swinging!

Another favorite past-time...spending time with dad!

Haha...this picture cracks me up! Naps are for wimps? I think not, this little guy loves his naps! And this is a new favorite sleeping position...I'm looking at him right now in his video monitor sleeping and he is in this same position. What a tough life he lives! :)
